Melaine Hickman

I’m Melaine Hickman, a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) with over two decades of experience in mental health and psychotherapy. My approach is eclectic, meaning I tailor each session to the unique needs of my clients, ensuring that therapy is a space where they feel heard, understood, and supported.

I have extensive experience working with veterans, particularly those navigating Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), military sexual trauma, and readjustment challenges after service. For over a decade, I provided counseling and facilitated support groups for veterans, helping them process their experiences, regain stability, and develop coping strategies for a successful transition into civilian life.

Beyond my work with veterans, I specialize in supporting individuals navigating trauma, including sexual trauma and PTSD, as well as those seeking guidance for depression, general mental health, relationship challenges, marriage and partnerships, and women’s mental health. My goal is to create a safe, welcoming environment where clients can explore their experiences, build resilience, and develop the tools they need to move forward with confidence.

Whether you’re a veteran in need of support, someone healing from past trauma, or an individual looking to improve emotional well-being, I’m here to walk alongside you on your journey to a healthier, more fulfilling life.

In addition to individual and group therapy, I am available for speaking engagements, workshops, and recurring presentations on mental health and well-being. Testimonials

I began therapy with Melanie last year. From the very first session, she had the ability to make me feel at ease with opening up to her and speaking candidly. Melanie comes across as very down to earth and approachable. I appreciate her analogies when I’m working through issues. I may start a session with her feeling anxious about something that is affecting me, but I have always left our sessions feeling more positive and capable. I would recommend Melanie to anyone who is struggling and is ready to work through their issues.

Melaine has provided me with invaluable tools to manage stress in healthy and effective ways. She is a constant bright light in my life, someone I genuinely look forward to seeing—especially during challenging times. Her expertise and deep knowledge make her a trusted guide through moments of distress, and I always feel heard and supported when I talk with her. I am incredibly grateful for the difference she has made in my life.

In 2024 I decided it was time to seek therapy for some intense life trials that I was struggling to work through on my own. I met with a couple of therapists without a connection until I met Melaine Hickman. Melaine is incredibly personable, kind, and enthusiastic to help her patients. She listened to my concerns and offered real, usable feedback and conversation. Every session feels like I am talking with a friend who cares about my well-being and progression to better health. Melaine provides me with useful feedback and actionable items to take away from our sessions and follows up with me on our next call to ensure I am following through and offers support and redirection when needed.

I could not be more grateful for the help and guidance that Melaine has provided me this year. Melaine is a gifted professional, and I would recommend her over and over to anyone looking for support through difficult seasons of life.

There are many good things I say about Melaine but I will keep it semi short. I will speak on what I am familiar with which is in the black male community therapy is something that is not very common. A lot of men that I have spoken to feel therapy is asking them to be vulnerable and so much has conditioned us to not be that way. I have had to navigate some troubled water in my life and needing someone to help me tackle those issues became a necessity. I did my research and came across Melaine’s name and it was truly a blessing. Finding the right therapist is like finding a good barber or church; it can be a journey. However when we started speaking I did not feel like I was a patient, it was more like I was talking to a good friend or that family member that is not crazy. She gives good advice in a way that is relatable and helps me process things in a way I would not have thought about. I have referred another friend of mine to her who has been grateful I did and I will keep letting people know that Melaine is very good at what she does and I can not be more grateful for all the help she has provided me.

My boyfriend and I saw Melaine for 6 months for couples therapy. She was incredibly flexible with scheduling, always accommodating when our availability shifted. Additionally, she offered a sliding scale, making her services more accessible when we needed it most. The physical tools she provided truly helped strengthen our relationship, offering practical strategies to work through challenges. What I appreciated most was how lighthearted and approachable she kept each session. It made a huge difference in how comfortable we felt. She was always readily available when we needed support!

I am so thankful that I found Melanie Hickman on Springhealth.  When we had our first meeting, she made me feel so comfortable.  It felt like we knew each other for years.  She takes the time out to listen and she is going to tell you the truth whether you like it or not but she is so caring and respectful that you can’t wait to have that next meeting.  She has changed my life for the better!  She is caring, funny, but also one of the best therapist I’ve ever talked to!  She to me is the G.O.A.T when it comes to therapy. I have a more positive outlook on life because of her.  And for that, Melanie, I truly thank you for helping me in my hardest and darkest times.  You are the best and I can’t wait for our next meeting!

Melaine has been my therapist for over a year and she has been amazing. When I first came to her I was full of anxiety, very emotional, and unsure of how to go forward in the situations I had found myself in that led me to her in the first place. Throughout my time with her she has given me confidence in being able to make good decisions for myself. She had taught me how to express myself appropriately to the people I love most. And more importantly she has guided me through a lot of tough times and teaching me how to use God’s word to get through. I love her so much and choosing her as my therapist was the best decision I have made in a VERY long time.
